CTSS 3 Released June 19, 2006

All TeraGrid users:

On Monday, June 19, 2006 the Coordinated TeraGrid Software and Services (CTSS) will be upgraded to version 3 on all sites. This new version updates existing software packages while adding useful new features, including Globus Tookit 4 with Web Services functionality, and tgcp, a new tool that simplifies the file transfer process.

Users’ environments will remain configured for the current CTSS 2 software until they switch to the new CTSS 3 software. We are planning for a 90 day transition period for users to make the conversion. With the change to CTSS 3, the default Globus Toolkit (GT) will change from version 2.4.3 to 4.0. While Globus commands remain the same, the upgrade includes new support for Web Services GRAM submissions.

In addition, the default Gram service on port 2119 will be upgraded to Globus 4.0.1,and the older Globus 2.4.3 service moved to port 2120.

The release of CTSS 3 also includes the production release of tgcp, a new data transfer command that handles transfer optimization parameters behind the scenes, simplifying the transfer process. To learn more, see http://www.teragrid.org/userinfo/data/gridftp.php#tgcp

GridFTP hostnames and ports will be standardized to tg-gridftp.{site}.teragrid.org:2811 (the default port) for Globus 4.0.1 gridFTP, and gt2-gridftp.{site}.teragrid.org:2812 for Globus 2.4.3 gridFTP. NOTE: It is recommended that MPICH-G2 users should NOT update their .soft file to the CTSS 3 default until further notice. MPICH-G2 users who do not update their .soft files will continue to use the CTSS 2 MPICH-G2 implementation.
